In 1967, in a bombing run over Hanoi he was shot down and badly injured.
When they found out my father was an admiral, they took me to a hospital.
Reporter: While holding him as a prisoner of war, they offered him an early release but he refused to violate the military code of first in, first out.
He was freed after 5 1/2 years of beatings and torture.
