These three demo tracks were recorded when Depeche Mode were known as "Composition Of Sound". An unreleased track, "Radio News", is included on this demo tape. Lyrically, the other two songs are identical, though Dave sings "the ice machine, ice machine" twice during the end of "Ice Machine", as he similarly does during early live shows until the end of the song. Fletch surprisingly plays bass during these tracks.
At least two early Composition Of Sound / Depeche Mode demo tapes existed in 1980:
a 4 track tape (containing Photographic, Television Set and two unknown/unnamed songs) with Vince singing, recorded before the arrival of Dave in the band.
- a 3 track tape (containing Ice Machine, Radio News & Photographic) with Dave singing, recorded after the arrival of Dave in the band.
The second demo tape was recorded during the summer of 1980. Dave will make his live debut with the band on June 14, the fourth gig of Composition Of Sound.

Hello all DM fans out there , This tape in fact is the real deal ....a few years ago , a member of the Depmod.com community was offered this tape for sale . You have to remember that some of these members have unbelievable connections in acquiring DM rarities , anyhoo............ this tape surfaced and after many " discussions " then negotiations with the seller ........they agreed on a price , however before a price was finalized , this Depmod member offered a chance for other Depmod.com members to contribute funds and those that did would be sent a WAV file of the tape . If I remember correctly it was about back in 2010 as I was attending an audio engineering school at the time and had an opportunity to "remaster " the WAV that was sent to me . These guys were gigging all over the place and handing out demo tapes to club owners , record shop owners & anyone else who they thought might land them a record deal was the norm back in the day so who knows how many tapes that have survived are out there . Nevertheless an IMPORTANT piece of DM history ......

ここでのVince Clarkeの音は1981年の"モデル"に軽々となってる
ただしカバーデザインは最低
グラフィカルなデザインの壊滅的センスは現在に至るまで(Pierre et Gillesの一枚を除き)一貫しており、Vince Clarke唯一の欠点と言っていい
なおそれにfollowするように
本人も一貫してﾊｹﾞと骸骨ガリガリを貫いている
Roland PMA-5 がでたとき
誰より早く嬉々としてライブで使っていた
ちっこいハンドヘルドデバイスをタッチペンでなぞっているだけ
という全くステージ映えしない演奏であるが本人大満足だしサウンドアノラックたちからは大注目
しかし当時Vince Clarkeは登山が趣味
Erasureで稼いだ金を全てつぎ込んだと思われる自分のスタジオにこもって数十台のモジュラーとアナログシンセサイザーに囲まれ至福の時を過ごす以外にも、
どでかい荷物を背負ってヒマラヤ登山もしているのである
